How I became First Mate of the Mums Enterprise

Lindsey and I have been friends for more than five years and I’d been helping her with graphic design for various Little Fish Event Management projects for a while when she came to me in May with something she could barely contain. Little Fish had a big idea, to give options and opportunities through events to mums, it was the Mums Enterprise Roadshow. She wanted to help them shoot for the moon, just like she’d been doing.  She was full of excitement and eager to get things going and I knew right away that something special was happening.  The more she explained her vision and the rationale behind hosting her very own events, the more caught up in the excitement I became.

As always with Lindsey, she had a strong idea in her mind of what she wanted and as I went over the design brief I was filled with ideas of my own.  I literally sat down the next morning and started to put together a mood board. Or moon board to be exact.  I’ve been working in the graphic design industry for more than 15 years and I can honestly say I’d never been more inspired than I was by Mums Enterprise Roadshow.

Perhaps it was down to the fact the events Lindsey had in mind were to cater to people just like me.  I’d not long found out I was expecting my first baby and was yet to tell Lindsey the happy news.  For the first time I was thinking about things as a mum to be and was certain that my future career plans would have to be flexible and fluid. Little did I know at the time that I’d end up becoming so involved with Mums Enterprise Roadshow that I’d become Lindseys partner.

It just sort of happened. Once I’d sent Lindsey the moon board and received her emotional and heartfelt reaction to the design I felt invested in it.  I didn’t want to stop working on Mums Enterprise Roadshow.  Being involved gave me a sense of purpose and drive. It made me want to strive to do the very best work I could and ideas would pop in to my mind all the time.  I didn’t just want to do design work. I wanted to help Lindsey bring Mums Enterprise Roadshow to the masses, any way I could.

Much has happened since May.  And there is much more to do. But I haven’t lost that sense of eagerness, that fire in my belly.  I don’t just want to help other mums shoot for the moon. I want to be right there with them. Lindsey isn’t going to rest until the Mums Enterprise Roadshow is helping mums up and down the country fulfill their ambitions and I’m happy to say it’s my mission too.
