How the Mums Enterprise brand was created

After I deciding that I was going to go for it and actually organise the Mums Enterprise Roadshow, it was time to bring it all to life. The first task was to create a brand, image, brand colours and logo which would then form our website.

Enter my very good friend and now business partner Lucy Chaplin. I have worked with Lucy before as she has supported me in design for Little Fish client jobs and still does and I really loved her work and the fact that when she is given a brief she really delivers……what she did for Mums Enterprise didn't just deliver, I was astounded.

Like I have said in my previous blog posts about – How the Mums Enterprise idea came about, I had a very strong vision about the events even before putting anything on paper. When it comes to the look and feel again I had a good idea of what I wanted in my mind.  I wanted our brand to be professional but fun, appeal to women but not be stereotypical girly, and most importantly to be innovative and creative – like nothing that you see anywhere else.

At this point I had already done a marketing audit which consisted of researching the market, what others in this market are doing and how they present themselves. Research into the need for such an event and the target audience as well as social and economic present status in the UK. Completing this audit meant I was then ready to write up a creative brief.

I created a comprehensive brief in April 2015, this was no usual brief as I needed to give Lucy a good background of what the events were about, what my idea was, she had to understand the fundamentals before she could create a suitable brand for us. So as well as details about what I needed, I included details about the idea, a little research and a few links. I am sharing this original brief (totally as it was supplied, no edits so apologies for any errors, spelling mistakes) so you can see exactly where the brand began and what Lucy had to work from to go and then design it.

Lucy took a week or so and I eagerly awaited her designs back, she sent me a Mood Board – or as she called it a Moon Board 

I remember where I was when I opened the email, it was on my mobile phone and I had just sat back in the car from doing my food shop. I counted myself in 1,2,3 as this was important stuff, the brand is essential to making these events a success. So I opened the attachment, closed my eyes, counted myself in and 1,2 3….. opened them.

WOW, what I saw exceeded my expectations, so much so I actually had a little cry of happiness from seeing what Lucy had produced even after seeing it for 5 seconds. She got it, she got it spot on and even more, she had chosen the perfect colours, she grasped the concept and totally understood what Mums Enterprise was all about. It was bloody amazing! The Mums Enterprise brand was born.

So this is where it all began for our business relationship, Lucy continues to create awesome designs for the Mums Enterprise Roadshow and everything you see has been created by First Mate of the Mums Enterprise Lucy Chaplin.

Lucy is actually 37 weeks pregnant as I type this. At the time of the brief I had no idea but she was 6 weeks pregnant. What a perfect partnership – we are also the Mums Enterprise Roadshow target audience!  Me with my Molly of 2 and Lucy currently expecting her first and a freelance graphic designer and Mums Enterprise and Little Fish Director.

Thanks for reading, I hope the original briefs help and that you enjoyed this blog. This one means a lot to me and I am so glad I could share it with you. x
